As part of a large-scale investment strategy in their UK business, the company wanted to overhaul their 150 dealer websites to make them more user-friendly. One key concern was that the sites should work flawlessly on mobile, as more potential customers were accessing on smartphones and tablets.
Natural Interaction collaborated with Big 6 energy company apply retail ecommerce principals to their services to boost product cross-sales. npower needed a new service to help new customers track their gas and electricity switches, but they also wanted to boost cross-sales of non-energy products. The brief was to deliver a website and a streamlined registration process for the launch of meetonvc, a video conferencing startup. The goal was to onboard new users as well as attracting resellers and investors.
The midata Innovation Lab (mIL) was set up as a collaborative learning exercise designed to explore the innovation opportunities now being opened up by midata – a UK Government programme designed to empower consumers with their own data. The lab’s partners included management consultancy Ctrl+Shift as well as household names such as O2, Aviva, npower, BBC, MoneySupermarket and Which.Natural Interaction were invited to join the lab to design and prototype applications which could demonstrate the user of data.
This is the story of how we enhanced npower’s online account management service, getting the basics right as well as introducing new functionality leading to a 35% increase in mobile user satisfaction and a surge in activity. npower came to us explaining that they felt they had a customer satisfaction image problem that wasn’t helped by an outdated online account management platform. They knew that more and more users were accessing the site on their smartphones, but the site didn’t work well on these devices and important tasks were hard to find. npower told us they needed an urgent overhaul that really worked for customers.
The key to useful innovation is to deliver services which solve customer and business problems. We combine stakeholder workshops, interviews and research to help decide what to design. Our experiments test whether there is demand for that product or service before you build it. This means that you can test before you invest.
UX goes far beyond user interface design. We take into account every interaction your customers have with the organisation. Everything should feel simple, natural and consistent. Our approach to User Experience design involves testing our assumptions regularly. We put our work in from of users and clients early and use what we learn to refine the design.
